EuroGamer: "I still don't really know what Blood Dragon is, or how it relates to Far Cry 3, but more to the point: I don't care. If only more blockbusters had this much fun with their legacy."

Polygon: "And that's the elephant in this particular room: Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon is a downloadable, stand-alone title that could stand with many AAA offerings on the shelves. It's not as deep, it's not as long, it's not as developed but at 15 bucks, it doesn't need to be. As an experiment in nostalgia and appreciation of '80s movies filtered through '80s video games (filtered through modern game design and visuals), Blood Dragon is a good time that borrows and steals artfully enough to get away with it."

Rock, Paper, Shotgun: "The result is odd. A good game, wallpapered with what should have been a festivity of fun, but instead is a dreary commentary no more witty than pub bores misremembering the existence of old adverts and then loudly laughing at themselves. And then explaining the jokes to each other in case they didnt get it. (I finally lost all patience for the bothersome narrative when it underlined, highlighted and shone giant neon arrows at an incredibly weak and entirely misplaced jump the shark joke.)"

GR:Far Cry jumps a trip in the time machine, and the result is a fever dream of neon colors and 80s references.

NowGamer: "Refreshingly honest about its love for all things 80s, it's hard not to get swept up in Blood Dragon's enthusiasm for the era, especially when it's backed by Far Cry 3 gameplay."

Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon is a fun game to play. It is a great example of how to use an existing game and spin it off into something fresh and fun while still retaining the core of the original. Whether young or old, there are jokes a plenty in this game to keep players having a good time while exploring this insane world. Although it is not a perfect experience, the story, music and characters will compel you to finish, just so you can see the ridiculous outcome of this parody of a game.

IGN:Blood Dragons playful focus on humor, nostalgia, and self-aware absurdity allows it to delve into a subject far more important than African arms races or tropical sociopaths: Video games are really, really fun. This comical, explosive shooter takes everything that makes Far Cry 3's gunplay great and dresses it in the kind of wit and over-the-top fun that Duke Nukem Forever is so desperately missing. Blood Dragon is a different beast and its something you shouldnt miss.
